Hiroshima is one of Japan’s top gourmet destinations! The best part? It’s affordable, friendly, and incredibly delicious.

When you think of Hiroshima, you think of Okonomiyaki, Ramen, Tsukemen, and Jiru‑nashi Tantanmen. Teppanyaki is also fantastic here. Hiroshima has a rich noodle culture, and local “Chuka Soba” is true soul food for the people of Hiroshima.

Honestly, almost every Okonomiyaki shop you find is great. If you see a place that looks inviting, just step in. Prices are fair, service is kind, and there’s no tipping in Japan.

🔥 How to Eat Okonomiyaki Like a Local Eat directly off the hot griddle using a small metal spatula called a hera. It’s very hot, so blow on it before taking a bite!

If you’re thinking, “I don’t want hot food on a hot day,” don’t worry—I’ve got some perfect recommendations.

All of these spots are within walking distance of the Peace Park.

1. Kingken — Mecca of Soupless Tantanmen

While O‑kun‑do is famous internationally, I personally recommend Kingken. How to Eat: Mix the noodles from the bottom—about 30 times! Spice Level: Choose your level. For your first time, “2” is perfect. Ultimate Tip: After finishing the noodles, order a half‑bowl of rice and buchikomu (dump it into the remaining sauce). It’s the best ending. https://maps.app.goo.gl/xD7zP3vxJyCyP4cv7?g_st=ic

2. Karakubu — Addictive, “Crazy” Spicy Tsukemen

Cold noodles dipped in a cold, super‑spicy chili broth. It’s wild! The bright red broth looks amazing in photos. Spice Level: If you’re not confident, choose “0”. If you’re brave, try “10 or higher”. My personal favorite is “15”. https://maps.app.goo.gl/AxthaPvfvxJ3Mzo96?g_st=ic

I was born in Hiroshima and I love Hiroshima. Even though I live in Himeji now, I always eat these dishes whenever I return.

If you need help planning your trip, feel free to ask me anytime. I’d love to support your amazing journey in Japan.
